Microbial strain characterisation for regulatory approval

Posted 23 January, 2019

Pen & Tec is happy to participate in an expert meeting on microbial strain characterisation for regulatory approval, organised by BaseClear.

This year’s expert meeting will bring scientists and researchers together to share and discuss applications and technical challenges they face in the industry.

The meeting will be of particular interest to researchers and scientists from cosmetic firms, academia, start-ups, CROs and regulatory managers.

Laura Payo Lewis, Pen & Tec’s Scientific Director will be delivering a presentation on EFSA regulatory requirements for EU approval of microbial feed additives”.

Abstract: In the EU, feed additives are “products used in animal nutrition for purposes of improving the quality of feed and the quality of food from animal origin, or to improve the animals’ performance and health”. Only those that have been through an authorisation procedure according to Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003 may be placed on the market. Microorganisms, such as bacteria, yeasts or filamentous fungi, have a long history of use in the food chain in the European Union.

Laura Payo Lewis holds a Master’s in Biotechnology from the University of Salamanca and interned in the cell culture quality control department of Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health in 2010. She specialises in both EU food and feed product registrations. She has more than 7 years’ experience in regulatory affairs, helping numerous clients take their products to market, such as enzymes used as animal digestibility enhancers or microorganisms used as gut ora stabilisers. She provides training sessions on all aspects of the EU registration process, on topics such as understanding data requirements for the risk assessment of food and feed products derived from genetically modified microorganisms.

The event will take place at BaseClear Auditorium, Sylviusweg 74, Leiden in The Netherlands on Thursday 11th April 2019.

The price will be 300 EUR (excl. VAT).
