EU Feed material updates

Posted 19 February, 2020

The EU Feed Chain Task Force (FCTF) is the body responsible for the maintenance of the Feed Material Register (FMR). This task force includes 42 EU organisations from different areas of the feed chain & includes industry stakeholders such as FEFAC & FEFANA.

During the latter part of 2019, the FMR was relaunched with a new website. You can now search rejected notifications, which is really useful. The FCTF is keeping a close eye on the FMR & systematically removing non-compliant notifications. The most commonly rejected notifications are for extracts, tinctures & flavours, which would all be classified as feed additives. Another substance that has been notified many times on the FMR over the last 18 months is cannabidiol (CBD). All CBD notifications have been rejected as CBD is considered to be a feed additive.

In November 2019, the FCTF presented their suggestions for the next update of the Feed Material Catalogue (FMC) to Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food & Feed (SCoPAFF) & the updated FMC is expected to enter into force in early 2020.

If you are unsure about whether your product is a feed material or a feed additive, or if you have any questions about the feed material register &/or catalogue please feel free to contact us & we can help you: info@pentec-consulting.eu.
